Transition Program at UCCTI

UCCTI is proud to offer a full-day transition program for self-contained special education students ages 18 to 21 who are seeking additional skills before entering the workforce. This full day program will assist students in obtaining vocational training and marketable job skills. Students will also participate in workplace math, science, and employability classes. Eligible students may be placed in internship or job shadowing experience.

School Day Schedule
The Transition Program at UCCTI begins at 8:00am and ends at 2:50pm. The schedule below represents a sample transition student’s day at UCCTI and is subject to change.
Sample Student Schedule:
Periods 1-3: Vocational Program*
Period 4: Employability Skills
Period 5: Consumer Science
Period 6: Fitness
Period 7: Lunch
Period 8-10: Vocational Program*
*Each Vocational Program includes one period per week of Technical English and one period per week of Math & Financial Concepts.

Eligibility
The Transition Program at UCCTI is dedicated to meeting the needs of students requiring self-contained classroom environments. Students in these programs must have an IEP with self-contained accommodations for more than 50% of the school day. Programs have a maximum enrollment of 12 students. Students must have completed all necessary high school graduation requirements and still be enrolled in their sending district.

Credit
Vocational Credit:
UCCTI Transition students participate in two vocational programs each year, receiving 10 credits per school year per vocational program. Students indicate preference for program on their application
Technical English:
Students will take Technical English in all years enrolled at UCCTI. This course meets one period a week for a full school year in each vocational program the student is enrolled in. Students attend the course as part of their vocational program and do not have the ability to opt out of Technical English. Students receive 5 credits in Technical English per school year.
Math & Financial Concepts:
Students will take Math & Financial Concepts in all years enrolled at UCCTI. This course meets one period a week for the full school year in each vocational program the student is enrolled in. Students attend the course as part of their vocational program and do not have the ability to opt out of Math & Financial Concepts. Students receive 5 credits in Math & Financial Concepts per school year.
Employability Skills:
This class will help prepare students to operate, succeed, and excel within business communities. Students will explore information technology and the skills necessary for pursuing their chosen occupational positions. Lessons will be taught on career opportunities, planning, interviewing skills, resume writing, oral presentations, conflict resolution, problem solving, and other business topics. This course meets one period a day for the full school year and students receive 2.5 credits in Employability Skills per school year.
Fitness:
This course meets one period a day for the full school year and students receive 2.5 credits in Fitness per school year.
Consumer Science:
This course is designed to meet the needs of students who will be entering different technical and vocational occupations. The course is designed to give students the science knowledge necessary to be successful in their fields. The course will have a series of lessons on basic science, which encompasses occupational safety, digital technology, and other topics related to science in the workplace. This course meets one period a day for the full school year and students receive 2.5 credits in Consumer Science per school year.
