UCCTI Mission Statement

The Union County Career & Technical Institute offers career and vocational education programs to high school students from throughout Union County. Focused on dynamic, hands on learning opportunities, education at UCCTI is provided in industry equivalent work spaces where students have the opportunity to learn skills necessary for advanced education in their chosen field or entry level employment.

School Day Structure
Shared-Time Programs at UCCTI are offered in both an AM and a PM schedule. The AM session runs from 8:00am to 10:07am; the PM session runs from 12:43pm to 2:50pm. First year students attend UCCTI in the AM session; returning students attend in the PM session. Second year Cosmetology and Automotive Technology students attend in the AM session; third year students in these programs attend in the PM session.
Students in cluster programs are eligible to attend in the AM or PM session, regardless of year. Requests for schedule changes are reviewed space permitting.

Career & Technical Education Credit
UCCTI students receive 10 credits per school year for their vocational program. Grades are delivered form UCCTI to the sending school counselor at the end of each marking period. Parents are able to track student grades through PowerSchool Parent Portal.

Academic Credit
Technical English
Students in all programs will take Technical English in all years enrolled at UCCTI. This course meets one period a week for a full school year. Students attend the course as part of their vocational program and do not have the ability to opt out of Technical English. Students receive 2.5 credits in Technical English per school year.
Math & Financial Concepts
Students in all programs will take Math & Financial Concepts in all years enrolled at UCCTI. This course meets one period a week for the full school year. Students attend the course as part of their vocational program and do not have the ability to opt out of Math & Financial Concepts. Students receive 2.5 credits in Math & Financial Concepts per school year.

Structured Learning Experience
Students in their senior year can participate in a job shadowing opportunity, internship, or work experience related to their program. Participation requires instructor approval. Criteria for participation includes: good attendance, minimum grade of an 80, and a flawless discipline record. All structured learning experiences are supervised by a certified SLE coordinator.

Advisory Board
UCCTI is committed to providing for the occupational training needs of county residents. We seek to meet the needs of students as well as those of business and industry. In order to facilitate a successful transition from school to career, collaborative partnerships are developed and maintained with community, businesses, and industry and post-secondary institutions.
Self-Contained Programs

Self-contained programs are dedicated to meeting the needs of students requiring self-contained classroom environments. Students in these programs must have an IEP with self-contained accommodations for more than 50% of the school day. Programs have a maximum enrollment of 12 students.
Shared-Time Programs

Shared-time programs have average class size of 20-24 students.
